Trio d’Argent – Le souffle nomade

The three flutists François Daudin Clavaud, Michel Boizot and Xavier Saint-Bonnet founded in 1984 the Trio d’Argent, renamed Trio d’Argent – Le Souffle nomade in 2014. The artistic journey of this unique ensemble which celebrated its thirty fifth anniversary in 2019 can be defined in three significant periods.

From 1984 to 1994 - Encouraged in its approach by flutists Jean-Pierre Rampal and Alain Marion, the Trio became, in 1985, Laureate of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation, for whom they performed on the one hand at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Salle Gaveau or Barbican Center in London, and on the other hand, as Sir Menuhin wished, in military barracks, hospitals, prisons, factories ... The Trio d’Argent is mainly dedicated to the original repertoire written for three flutes with pieces by Joseph Bodin of Boismortier, François Devienne, Friedrich Kuhlau, Jean-Louis Tulou, Saverio Mercadante ... Some transcriptions are added, with pieces written specifically for instruments from the same family as the trios for two oboes and English horns by Ludwig van Beethoven, the divertimenti for basset horns by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or the baritone trios by Joseph Haydn. The Trio plays some contemporary pieces including Klaus Hubert's Les Oiseaux d'Argent and a trio by Claude Arrieu dedicated to them.

From 1994 to 2005 - The meeting with the composers Thierry Pécou, Tôn Thât Tiêt, Luc Ferrari, Gualtiero Dazzi, Suzanne Giraud ... marks an important step in the course of the Trio with the development of a repertoire specifically written for them. François Daudin Clavaud, one of the musicians of the Trio, contributes by composing many pieces himself. The influences of the extra-European cultures drawn during their tours of Asia to the Americas are gradually orienting their work around an aesthetic that is at the crossroads of contemporary creation and world music. In addition, faced with the archetypes of the classical concert, which is often too conventional, the trio offers concert-shows with original scenographies, allowing for an easier approach to contemporary music for all audiences.

From 2005 to today - During this last decade, the Trio widens its field of action by integrating in its shows new technologies related to the digital sound processing in real time. For this, they joined forces with composer Leon Milo who, in collaboration with François Daudin Clavaud, has developed a computer-assisted improvisation system. This new platform will allow to create interactive bridges with other artistic disciplines: circus arts with the tightrope walker Solaine Caillat, visual arts with images of synthesis of Miguel Chevalier, writing and painting with Jeanne Gatard, videos with Catherine Pamart, dance with Jean-Claude Gallotta ... The Trio also often associates with other musicians or large ensembles (symphony orchestra, harmonies ...). Its artistic identity, more and more embedded in the theme of nomadism and travel, encourages the Trio to rename itself the Trio d'Argent – Le souffle nomade in 2015.
